All normal people. Are normal people just those you don't know much? The norm for me is the highest insult. "

Since childhood, we different ways inspire the attitude "be like everyone else."

Everyone is doing it - so you do it too. "Why"? the child asks. "In order not to be a black sheep, so that they do not laugh at you!" - he hears in response.

This is how, gradually, the fear of being at least something different from everyone else, the fear of being ridiculed, is laid in us. But do these "all" always do the right thing? Is the majority always right? And in general - is the person who is "like everyone else" happy? Let's look at a few situations that happened in the life of my acquaintances (names have been changed).

Olya liked her long hair. And her best friend made herself a bob haircut because it was fashionable. She began to convince Olya, and in the end she also made herself a "square". A little time passed, and the girl began to regret her luxurious hair, especially since the fashion for long hair came, she began to grow it, but her hair grew slowly ... She acted like everyone else, just to keep up with fashion, and as a result, she lost her individuality and acquired regrets ...

Someone will say: well, hair is a trifle ... Then consider another example.

Anya is a smart and beautiful, but lonely girl. Her peers have been dating guys for a long time and laugh at Anya among themselves, because she doesn't even try to attract the attention of guys with bright makeup and seductive clothes. They even say that Anya will remain alone all her life with her modesty and inaccessibility.

But the result was not at all what her peers predicted. They tried to attract the attention of the guys with their figure, appearance, they did not develop the good qualities of their character, did not work on themselves ... And, attracting only superficial ones, they got the same superficial temporary relationship along with disappointment and tears.

Anya wears elegant clothes of normal length, and when the guys see her, they understand that this girl is for a serious, not an easy relationship. Yes, she does not attract as many guys as her peers with bright makeup and mini do, but she attracts worthy young people, which all girls dream of! Anya married just such a loyal, loving, hardworking guy, from whom she does not carry alcohol and tobacco. She did not act like everyone else, and in the end she is happy! And her peers scold the guys and cannot understand why they, beauties, are abandoned.

And one more example. Once Ira read a book for girls based on Christian principles, which told about how a girl should act in order to be happy. One of the most common mistakes, it said there, is that girls try to keep a guy by engaging in an intimate relationship with him before marriage. Ira was delighted with the principles outlined in the book, and gave me the same one, for which I will always be grateful to her! She was ready to do what it says. But, having left to study in another city, she began to communicate with a nice guy who does not know God and acts like everyone else. As a result, she neglected all the principles in that book and began to live with him, not being his wife. At first everything seemed to be good, but not for long. He left somewhere, and she found a correspondence with another girl in his computer. When he found out that his secret was revealed, he asked for forgiveness on his knees, and she forgave, but he still did not remain faithful to her. Now she is alone with a broken heart. She had everything: beauty, intelligence, knowledge, opportunities ... But she neglected God's principles that He gave us to make us happy.

I did what God advises, and He gave me the best husband in the world, a real prince, with whom we have been together for 7 years, loving, beautiful, kind, talented and honoring our Creator.

God loves you very much! He really wants to give every girl the best for her! Only, please, choose to act not like everyone else, but as God says, and you will be happy!

Ecology of life: According to legend, they live among us. They have many faces, each of which reminds us of our own imperfection. All normal people know what they want and how to achieve it. All normal people know how to find mutual language with others. Everything...

According to legend, they live among us. They have many faces, each of which reminds us of our own imperfection.

All normal people know what they want and how to achieve it.
All normal people know how to find a common language with others.
All normal people create normal families and live happily.

The legend of normal people is rooted in childhood, in mother's lamentations over your torn jacket and broken knees:

All normal children are calm and assiduous.
All normal children know when to stop.
All normal children go to other parents.

And you swear not to run, not to fall, not to quarrel, not to fight, to do your homework without a reminder, to finally fall in love with boiled broccoli ... You honestly try to become like all normal children - so that your mother would feel like a normal mother, no worse than others. Indeed, for a person, for a normal person, even a small one, nothing is impossible: it is written about this in a book, books do not lie, especially to children.

All normal children read books.
All normal children quickly learn to play by the rules.
All normal children are open to the world.

Unbeknownst to yourself, you begin to believe in the legend of normality, correlate your thoughts and actions with it, divide people into normal and abnormal.

In my opinion, it is not entirely normal.
- Of course! Any normal person would first think and then speak. All normal people do this ...

There comes a moment when "all normal people" crawl into your head and begin to live your life instead of you. They choose friends instead of you, buy clothes for you instead of you, download torrents to their liking: "Every normal person should watch this." You feel more and more normal and less and less yourself.

All normal people make decisions based on their own choices.
All normal people are confident.
All normal people think positively.

"Normal people" instruct and evaluate. The part of you that is still yours is trying to rebel, banging your shoes, but any form of harassment is harshly suppressed:

Are you going to miss this great opportunity? Are you crazy?

Abnormality, like the worst nightmare, is on your heels and will surely overtake you if you break the agreement on normality. Haven't signed any agreements? That's the joke: the agreement on normality was signed for you by “all normal people” who took root in your mind.

All normal people realize that they are normal.

All normal people question their normalcy.
All normal people strive to protect themselves from everything abnormal.

Abnormal - means, driven out of the polis, thrown off a cliff. Inadequate, inappropriate. Some rules of "normal" behavior have become law. For example: normal people do not steal or kill other normal people. If you steal and kill, then you are a criminal, a thief and a murderer. A thief should be in jail, a murderer in an electric chair. The desire of a thief to steal and the need of a murderer to kill for society have less weight than the rights of people not to be robbed and killed.

All normal people obey the law.

All normal people are responsible for their words and actions.
All normal people have read Crime and Punishment.

In addition to law, there are social norms of varying degrees of formalization:

All normal people respect the elders and give them a place in transport.
All normal people consider human life to be the highest value.
All normal people live according to their conscience.

If you do not consider human life to be the highest value, you fall out of the normal range. But at the same time you live according to your conscience - it turns out, nevertheless, normal? Can you be half normal? Yes or no?

The legend of normal people is passed by word of mouth, it has a high citation index. Professional storytellers supplement it with more and more new details, ostensibly speaking on behalf of those very normal people.

We, normal people, do not want to be taken by aliens.
We, normal people ...

You, normal people - who are you? Do you really exist?

Task for field research: you observe relatives, acquaintances, colleagues in the office, heroes in the movies and deputies in a box. You determine which one of them is normal, you paint the faces of abstract “normal people” with living colors.

Svetka / Igor Vladimirovich / The Pope is a normal person, completely in the subject.

Normal means your own. Abnormal is a stranger. By displaying traits of abnormality, you break yourself. A reference point comes to the rescue: Svetka / Igor Vladimirovich / The Pope would have acted that way, which means that it should be so. Oops! A step back was the opposite: a breakthrough into abnormality looked like sabotage in order to reclaim its territory from the "normal people" who settled it.

Normality is no longer a compulsion, but as if a choice, not a prison, but a home. You feel good there: you walk in formation, sing in chorus, smile on command. You are not afraid of anything. All normal people convert fear to faith. As a normal person, you believe that after death you will go to heaven for normal people, because in life you were normal. All normal people are judges, saints, righteous. Normality is your refuge and salvation. Abnormality is an inner hell: boiling cauldrons and devils with horns.

The question remains: are all normal people normal in the same way, or are everyone normal in their own way? Since we live in a world of normal people and ourselves are normal, why shouldn't everyone choose their own form of normality - so as not to merge? (This is the normal motive of a normal person.) After all, we are adequate enough, we will not go crazy from unexpected freedom. Or are there risks?

All normal people have a right to a true existence.
All normal people are able to enjoy a walk in an area of two square meters.

In this article we will talk about "normal people". Can each of you consider yourself normal? Who is this normal person anyway?

It is believed that normal people experience positive emotions most of the time.

If they are sad, they do not do it without a good reason - maybe he has passed away close person, or big trouble happened.

A "normal person" is not subject to irrational anxieties, does not feel inexplicable fear. All his mental activity is rational and balanced. He is always full of energy, clearly knows what he wants from life, rarely doubts and always has a ready-made solution for everything.

Most of us want to be "normal." And in our thoughts we often compare ourselves with some abstract “healthy”, “normal” person.

We often hear:

"Such thoughts cannot occur to a normal person."

"Since I feel sad for no reason, then something is wrong with me."

In this article I will prove that there is nothing normal about the so-called "normal person". That, probably, there are no normal people at all!

The image of a "normal" person was formed due to the development of mass culture with its idealized, glossy characters, as well as due to the influence of certain views in psychology.

Most schools of psychology are based on mechanistic philosophy. This philosophy views a person as a kind of mechanism with different, separated parts. She believes that some parts of our psyche are “wrong”, “pathological”. From her point of view, there are memories, emotions, thoughts, states of consciousness that are "problematic", "abnormal" and therefore must be corrected or removed.

“Do you know what people never doubt anything? These are the ones who are wrapped in explosives and blow themselves up in crowded places! "

Penetrating into public consciousness, similar way thinking and gives rise to ideas about "unwanted" emotions, "bad" thoughts, forms the image of "normal" and "abnormal" people.

Other possible reason This perception of "normalcy" is the activity of the multibillion-dollar pharmaceutical industry. It is beneficial for drug manufacturers to maintain the belief that some manifestations of our psyche are pathological. Coupled with the lack of available information on natural methods of dealing with anxiety, insomnia, bad mood, this faith is greatly reinforced.

But can many of our thoughts and feelings really be considered painful deviations from the norm, which prevail only in a few? Let's try to figure it out.

"Bad thoughts" only occur to the abnormal

Canadian psychologist Stanley Rutman conducted a study on students who were considered "healthy" by all measures. It turned out that almost each of the subjects from time to time comes up with thoughts about sexual violence, perversion, as well as blasphemous ideas, pictures of violence against old people or animals.

Other studies have shown that 50% of all people seriously consider suicide at least once in their life (Kessler, 2005)

Where are all these "normal people"? After all, it is believed that negative thoughts are abnormal! But everyone has them.

Anxiety is something abnormal!

Anxiety is a natural evolutionary mechanism. Anxious expectation of danger (even where there is none), panic, which manifests itself in involuntary moments, more than once rescued a person in the jungles and deserts of antiquity, full of threats and dangers.

"... about a third of all people (but most likely more) have ever suffered from what is called" mental illness "..."

Why, then, some people have a tendency to excessive anxiety, and some people do not? American psychotherapist David Carbonell, again, refers us to evolutionary psychology, arguing that in each tribe, in the interests of overall survival, both people with an increased propensity to take risks and people who were overly anxious had to be present. The first type of people supported the tribe in hunting and wars, where uncompromising courage was required. The second type helped the tribe to survive, anticipating the threat, preventing unnecessary risks.

Of course, excessive anxiety does not always lead to anxiety disorders, although it can be one of the prerequisites for this problem. But this is not something "abnormal" and rare.

According to statistics, up to 30% of people face anxiety disorders in any period of their lives! 12 percent of humanity suffers from specific phobias, and 10 percent of people suffer from social anxiety. And in the USA and Europe, these numbers are even higher!

Depression and other ailments

Depression statistics in different countries is different. For example, in Japan, the percentage of people who experience chronic depression is 7%. And in France - 21% (!). Approximately 8% of people experience eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.

4 percent of adults have attention deficit disorder. But I believe that due to the very vague diagnostic criteria and controversy over this diagnosis, these numbers may be underestimated. It seems to me that if we take into account the modern pace of life, then with a poor concentration of attention, uncontrolled motor activity, impulsivity, constant haste, there are many more people.

Permanent happiness is "normal human condition"

A normal person, supposedly, always experiences positive emotions.

But if we look at the data that I gave above, it turns out that about a third of all people (but most likely more) have ever suffered from what is called "mental illness"!

"... for some reason the number of people suffering from mental disorders is growing at the same rate as the development of the pharmaceutical industry!"

If we talk about deviations not in a clinical, but in an everyday context, then it can be emphasized that almost all people from time to time visit uncontrolled, irrational thoughts, "causeless" changes in mood, fears and doubts.

It is a myth that a "normal" person never doubts! Do you know what people never doubt anything? These are the ones who wrap themselves in explosives and blow themselves up in crowded places! So they are always sure of everything and do not experience great agony of choice.

As psychologist Joseph Tsiarocci said: “Mentally ill, abnormal - these are just words from human language. No one should be considered sick or healthy. We are all in the same human boat. "

Life is generally a difficult thing, as the British psychotherapist Russ Harris says: "It is unlikely that anyone will ever say to me:" My life is too easy, I do not have enough difficulties in life! "

And Buddha generally said that "the whole existence is permeated with suffering."

Life is full of hard trials, tragic events, stress, anguish, pain, aging, death. And these things accompany all people, regardless of their status, material well-being, health.

Mental suffering is an indispensable part of our life, and not a shameful exception to the rule, not a shameful deviation.

Pain, sadness, despondency - this is normal!

And a person will learn to cope with this suffering only when he ceases to be ashamed of it, vigorously conceal it, suppress and suppress it.

We have been taught to look at it as a "thing that shouldn't be" in our "normal world." We do not recognize that which does not correspond to the image of a "normal person", we are trying with all our might to push it out of the framework of our everyday existence.

Therefore, according to statistics, half or most of the people with mental problems do not ask for timely help: they are ashamed of it, they are afraid or do not admit it at all, or they think that it is not for them (“only psychos resort to psychological help!”).

Therefore, when unpleasant emotions or thoughts come, people persistently try to suppress them. Stop feeling. Stop thinking. Surely each of us was repeatedly given advice: "Do not be afraid!", "Just do not think about it!" Rave! It has been proven that attempts to suppress emotions or throw thoughts out of the head lead in a paradoxical way to the opposite result: there are even more unwanted emotions and thoughts.

Therefore, it has become normal for many people to take pills for every occasion: after all, anxiety, sadness, irritation are abnormal! It shouldn't be! But for some reason, the number of people suffering from mental disorders is growing at the same rate as the development of the pharmaceutical industry!

And I want to give you another quote from Joseph Tsiarocci:

“In Western culture, it is customary to suppress bad emotions and emphasize good ones. Many books on self-development and popular psychology claim that if you have a positive attitude towards the world, you can do anything: make millions of dollars, beat cancer, and eliminate stress from your life.

Parents often tell boys that they don't “should” feel fear, and girls that they don't “should” feel angry. Adults pretend that everything in their life is perfect. Although, we know that in fact, many people have surprising high level depression, anxiety and anger.

Perhaps the words of Henry Thoreau are correct: "most people drag out their lives in quiet despair." We are faced with a paradox: We, as a society, have tried to become happier for decades, but there is still no evidence that we are actually becoming happier. "

~ My translation of a quote from the book "CBT Practitioner's Guide to ACT"

The quote is gloomy only at first glance. It is not at all about the fact that happiness is impossible. She simply states the fact that the practice of avoiding (or even tabooing) negative emotions accepted in Western culture, attempts to “think positively” do not justify themselves. It seems that the more we try to live without unpleasant emotions, stress, negative experiences, the more unhappy we become.

And maybe it's time to change tactics, since it doesn't work? Maybe it's time to move towards accepting unpleasant emotions as a fair part of life? Make friends with your sadness, anxiety, anger! No, not indulge them at all, but simply pay attention to them, stop denying them, convince ourselves that we “should not experience them.” Just learn to accept them as natural properties human nature as temporary phenomena, as regular phenomena inner peace, as an integral attribute of life, which passes through both joys, successes, and through sorrows and suffering. Accept and release.

In conclusion, I would like to cite an interesting note about the so-called "shamanic disease." This is an example of how the concept of “norm” differs in different cultures.

Obsessive Delusions or Shamanic Disease?

This example is taken from the book by E.A. Torchinov's "Religions of the world and the experience of the beyond."

In cultures where shamanism is developed, there is such a concept as "shamanic disease". What it is? This is a whole collection of different symptoms: persistent headaches, anxiety, nightmares, auditory and visual hallucinations, which some members of the tribe encounter.

What would we do with such a person? He would be immediately treated, trying to eliminate any symptoms of this disease, would isolate him "sick" from society. But for shamanic cultures, this is not a problem that requires immediate resolution, not a disease that is being "treated". This is a guarantee of a person's chosenness, evidence of his future destiny.

It is the one who faced the "shamanic disease" who will become the future shaman. The most interesting thing is that all these unpleasant symptoms disappear after shamanic initiation. But at the time of the initiation itself, they, on the contrary, are greatly exacerbated.

Indeed, during the initiation, the future shaman plunges into a trance with the help of rhythmic chants, ceremonies and psychoactive substances. He is going through a deep transpersonal experience that can be very frightening at times. Many survivors talk about unknown, terrible entities that tear the shaman's body to pieces, so that they can then be reassembled.

But after the ceremony, the future shaman, entering into his role, gets rid of the frightening symptoms. He feels incredible relief, a kind of spiritual renewal. And this is where his torment ends.

What is interesting here is that unlike western culture, hallucinations do not try to suppress, drown out "inhibitory" drugs. On the contrary, they try to strengthen them as much as possible, to bring them to the extreme during the ceremony. In an effort to plunge a person into the very maelstrom of his secret fears and manias.

I am not trying to say that our culture's approach to treating schizophrenia is necessarily bad and wrong, and that shamans are actually right. I just wanted to demonstrate how conventional and relative the concepts of "norm" and "deviation" can be.

Although, I will allow myself to illuminate here my own assumption regarding the shamanic disease. If we discard all mysticism, then the meaning of all these ceremonies can be as follows.

It is possible that the shaman does not have any magical abilities.(I do not deny them, but simply take them out of the parentheses of these arguments). It's just that, as a rule, this is a rather subtle feeling person who has a very close connection with his unconscious. And in it rest all archaic images, pictures of demonic and divine battles, concepts of spirits and ancestors, which a person, having become a spellcaster, through his rituals already broadcasts to his fellow tribesmen.

And it is very likely that such a person in adolescence may have certain problems, incomprehensible symptoms (mental ailments often occur just in "sensitive" people). And when he is selected for initiation, he is subjected to, one might say, exposure (a practice that is used in many psychotherapeutic methods and consists in the fact that a person is exposed to contact with the object of his phobias) within the framework of these rituals. And through cathartic experiences, through a meeting with their own fears, the shaman is freed from these hallucinations.

And even if the symptoms persist, it is much easier for a person to accept them, because he is not told that he is "sick" and "abnormal."

What do you think about the phenomenon of shamanic disease? I would be glad if you share this in the comments. I am very interested in discussing this issue.

Vlad Tsyplukhin checks his health

To bookmarks

Product director of the site Vlad Tsyplukhin spat in a test tube, and a few months later he went to the clinic for a health check - to look at himself from the inside, smart people listen and tell others. Not about himself, but about modern medicine, in which he does not understand anything.

The material was written with the support of the Atlas Clinic

Another year - and I will turn thirty

Dramatic pause.

I think we can already go to the camp of people who gather on Fridays in quiet cafes for a glass of wine and discuss the whole evening how they could earlier “from Wednesday to Sunday - and at least that”, but now “oh, one day was buzzing - the next held horizontally. " In fact, I have already switched. But I don't like talking about how it was. From them one gets the impression that parties are the main thing in life. And as if life after thirty begins a countdown - which, as we know, is a big delusion.

Talking about health is worse than reflecting on the past. Who doesn't dream of seeing less often friends who are constantly whining about their sores? Who even likes to talk about them? The mood spoils from strangers, and then you make up your own mind. Being young, up to a certain age, we prefer to live according to the concept “if we don’t think about health, we don’t think about doctors, then there will be no problems”. And this happens until, as it is customary to say, such a bell rings, which cannot be waited out on the sofa, and which cannot be dealt with without the participation of a doctor.

My bell rang last fall: for no reason at all I started to have panic attacks with the obsession that my health was deteriorating rapidly, and in all places at once. I did not experience any sharp pain, but there were very strange sensations in my stomach and a terrible fear with suspicion, no joke, of a quick death. It was then that I turned into a whiner, who, out of fright, began to say at every meeting with friends that I had "serious problems." It is difficult to describe in words: I could not concentrate on anything, except for the thought that “here I jumped,” “the time has come to pay for everything”. Several doctors in St. Petersburg, after conducting superficial examinations, told me that "everything seems to be fine." But who will be satisfied with such an answer, when an obsession has already hung in my head, and the fear is only intensifying?

As a result, panic led me to an examination at a gastroenterology clinic in Israel, which specializes in difficult cases... I am sitting in a small room, a doctor comes out to me, asks what happened, and I go to him: “I have serious problems. And here it hurts. And here it feels strange. And here I hear clicks when pressed. I'm getting worse every day. " The doctor turns pale, calls the nurse, they turn me off under general anesthesia and do a full examination.

When I woke up, the first person I saw was a smiling, I would even say, a laughing doctor who, in as much English as he could, said something like “Yoo ar panic man”. They did not find anything in me, except for the banal Helicobacter, which they do not even consider to be a disease, and many people live with it all their lives and do not suspect anything. They fed me, gave them pills and sent them back.

"We know such people, go to bed, hospital"

When I returned to St. Petersburg, my stomach, of course, stopped hurting. But now there were "unpleasant sensations" in the neck, and then in the joints - and it started again. After going through several more rounds of doctors who said that they could not find anything, I finally thought that I started with the wrong doctor. This was also indicated by the fact that as soon as one of the doctors told me that "everything is all right, but you better check this area," something started to hurt me in the same area.

Yes, as you probably already guessed, at the age of 28 I, who always laughed at the "weaklings who do not know how to pull themselves together," find myself in the armchair by the shrink. First, my friend took me to a real psychiatric hospital, because her friend is the manager. I walked along the corridors of this hospital and could not believe that I was there. I went into an old Soviet office, my grandfather met me:

- Tell me.
- I began to invent diseases for myself. Probably it shouldn't be that way.
- What are you doing?
- I work on the Internet.
- Clear. We know such people. Go to the hospital for a week. Let's make you a brain encephalogram. Take some pills.
- Are you putting me in the hospital? Do you think it's that bad?
- Do you want to be cured?
- Give me time to think.

With a brisk step - rather, almost running - I walked along the inner garden of this hospital, looked at the outer gates and thought that now they would close and they would leave me there forever. He jumped into the car of a friend who brought me there, like in the best American films - with the words “Step on the pedal. Let's get out of here. "

As a result, through friends I was recommended a doctor-psychotherapist, who seems to be on such fools as me, and specializes - diagnoses neuroses and anxiety-depressive disorders. He gave me some kind of diagnosis, the complicated name of which I do not remember, but keyword there was "anxiety." The visit to the psychotherapist was accompanied by very interesting sensations that I had not experienced until that moment. You sit in a comfortable leather chair, and there are napkins on the table in front of you:

- Do you think I'll cry?
- Well, we'll see now.

This joke alone made me feel better. Without any pills, in two sessions, he brought me back to life and explained what to look for and what to watch out for. It turned out that all this mess was due to the fact that I was simply overheated.

But the bell has already rang

Life seemed to get better, everything went on as usual. True, all this time the thought did not leave me that it would be nice to find out in what state my body is now in general, so that if not to lead a completely healthy lifestyle, then at least to understand where it can come from. And two months ago, a medical center came to us with a request for sponsorship material.

According to their idea, one of our employees had to go through a full-fledged medical check and write about their impressions. A prerequisite is passed. There are only three of us with a passed test in the company - two editor-in-chief and me (we received these tests as a gift last year). The chief editors live in St. Petersburg, so:

When I was examined by some doctors, whose names I don't even want to remember, I often thought that native advertising had never come so close to me.

The examination begins with a conversation with a therapist - he attentively listens to your story, while they take blood and other tests from you, take an electrocardiogram, and then, depending on the results of the initial examination and your complaints, prescribes the procedure for consulting with specialized doctors. By the way, it was the first time in my life with a therapist. Up to this point, I turned to specialized doctors, although I could have guessed that neck pain is not always associated with ENT. But specialized doctors always found something to treat me from, since I went to the light. In general, I could have guessed a lot: during the examination it turned out that I know absolutely nothing about my body and the principles of its work. The program that I went through became more educational for me: all the doctors in Atlas have poppies, and they contain books, films, 3D models of organs.

Do not be alarmed, in this picture I am just breathing into a tube: a gastroenterologist is conducting a breath test for Helicobacter, which I found in Israel. And at this moment she shows me cartoons about the history of the emergence of this bacterium, the ways of spreading and affecting the body. He watches these cartoons with me, moreover, attention, and smiling at his favorite episodes. And so that you understand, they are not only serving me: at the end of most of the consultations, I asked if they knew that I was going to write an article about them. There were only managers and two doctors in the course.

In between consultations, I went out to sit at the reception. After examinations, which are done on an empty stomach, give a light snack.

I felt a little uncomfortable because I had to go out in a robe to the reception where other people were sitting. It seems, they say, they are all healthy, and I am already sick. But I was honestly asked in advance how it would be more convenient for me - to dress every time or just be in a dressing gown. My complexes are my complexes.

A complete list of doctors and directions that are included in the examination can be viewed at the medical center - I was examined by about seven doctors. I do not want to dwell on this in detail, adding only that if I understood the therapist correctly, then the list of examinations can be varied: if I have been to an ophthalmologist recently, then it is better to visit another doctor. For example, on the contrary, I wanted to talk to an ophthalmologist: I asked her who were worried about how safe it is to do vision correction today. We took apart a mock-up of the eyes with her, talked about what exactly happens there when they do such an operation and what risks I personally have.

What nature gave

In the next appointment, I had a detailed conversation with a geneticist. Have you ever had one? Me too. The results of my DNA were interpreted to me for an hour. There is no unscientific style magic. I was honestly told which studies were statistically validated and which were of little significance. Each conclusion is supported by a link to Scientific research for those wishing to study the issue in more detail.

Through all the conversations with the doctors of the Atlas Medical Center (including the main one - he met him in the corridor and spoke for only 30 seconds), one common line is drawn: they want to build a clinic that will allow patients to learn more about themselves than can be found in others Russian institutions... According to the genetic test, a diagnosis is not made, but it is used to navigate through the necessary tests and examinations. For example, my test said that I have problems with the absorption of vitamin D, and the blood test confirmed that the problem really exists now, and this is affecting something. I counted about four similar coincidences with analyzes, in addition to some general things - like the one that, for example, the gentest says about a low probability of developing migraines, and at the same time I never, even after parties, have a headache.

The use of a full-fledged genetic test is the main difference between personalized medicine and conventional medicine. With this approach, doctors' actions are based on the genetic differences of the patients. This makes it possible to compose individual plan examination, nutrition, training and other recommendations.

First of all, a geneticist checks for serious mutations that cause hereditary diseases... I have not found these mutations, but on average, a person has from one to ten. Non-dangerous mutations are also checked. They do not necessarily manifest themselves as a disease - as I was explained, the likelihood depends on the lifestyle and many other factors.

These studies are more often used for family planning: if a couple has the same predispositions, then it is better to play it safe and try to reduce the risks of having a sick child. The geneticist with whom I spoke, just complained that often couples go to the doctor after a sick child is born.

I remember that I passed the DNA test only once, and now, as some research appears, I will be uploaded to my personal account the conclusions that could be drawn specifically in relation to me. After all, who doesn't want to simply learn about their origins and trace their ancestors across the map? Or, for example, find out which of famous people you are most genetically similar to the Galo-Norwegian commander Somerled and actor Tom Hanks.

In general, meet - geneticist Irina Zhegulina, who looks as if she came to the appointment immediately from the filming of some series about doctors, a wonderful assistant Olga and I in the role of a patient:

Here is your folder, good luck, hold on

A noticeable advantage of treatment in Atlas is that you do not have to knock out the results of your examinations with a weapon that you have lost or did not receive. They all appear the very next day in personal account on the site.

Exactly in the same place where the results of my genetic test with recommendations are stored. You can imagine that I suddenly have to be at a doctor's appointment from another clinic, he will once again ask me about the availability of some tests, and instead of making a helpless gesture, I will simply enter my personal office.

After all the examinations, I again found myself at the final consultation with my attending physician Olga Gennadievna. She recorded the results, identified areas of risk and made recommendations, prioritizing and proposing an action plan. I have a lot to work on. You can take your time - the main thing is that I was tested for most of the known diseases, although, of course, no one can give one hundred percent guarantees.

I have acquaintances who, inspired by the tough guys from the Valley, have gone into the topic of healthy lifestyle so deeply that they take blood tests every week, entering the results on the plate and tracking the dynamics of the composition. This allows them to adjust their diet and live in the hope that the moment will come when people will become immortal. I have not had time to get infected with this idea yet, but I am grateful to the Atlas clinic, which, albeit for advertising purposes, gave me peace of mind.

Such a health check costs 28,000 rubles. I do not presume to judge the high cost, because I am not familiar with the market. Personally, since last fall, I've spent a lot more looking for people who can explain everything to me. Genetic test, which the doctors of the clinic recommend to go through for a more detailed study of the body, costs 29,900 rubles. It is not obligatory - you can go through the check without it.

For those who read my medical history, Vitya Babichev - the person who ordered this text - offered to make a 10% discount using a special promotional code. He even allowed me to choose its name myself. Let it be zvonochek- you can use it when ordering a test through the website or by speaking by phone when ordering a medical checkup.

“Normal people are only those whom you know little,” Adler said. Considering that Alfred Adler is the founder of the individual system, it makes sense to listen to his point of view. However, first of all, it is necessary to determine the terminology, and, in particular, with the very concept of normality. In medicine (and including), the norm is understood as a certain state of the body that does not harm its functions. Psychiatrists, on the other hand, define the normal state as a set of indicators that correspond to certain expectations and perceptions.

Sigmund Freud's attitude to Alfred Adler was initially quite loyal, but in later letters the founder of psychoanalysis called Adler paranoid, claiming that he advanced "incomprehensible" theories.

In principle, on the basis of this, we can say that a "normal person" is quite flexible, largely dependent on the value judgments of other people who consider themselves normal. Of course, since it comes about social interactions, the opinion of society must be taken into account, but we must not forget that even a very large number of people are capable of making mistakes. This is especially noticeable in the example of medieval scientists, who faced severe rejection of their discoveries and ideas, and some were even executed.

Adler was right

However, if you still imagine that there are relatively objective criteria for the normality of this or that person, Adler's statement will indeed be true. It means that the less is known about a person, the less manifestations of his individuality, by which it is possible to form an idea of whether he is normal. In addition, insufficiently close acquaintance deprives you of not only information about significant events and actions in this person's life, but also information about his motives, experiences, emotions and desires, both explicit and hidden, suppressed.

It is necessary to understand the difference between the social concept of the norm and the individual. In many cases, people who transcend social norms are excellent subjects for interpersonal communication.

Moreover, most people unconsciously profess the concept positive thinking, in other words, assumes that the person is normal until proven otherwise. Naturally, the more formal the communication, the lower the probability of obtaining evidence of one deviation or another. On the other hand, one should not go to extremes and generalizations and suspect everyone in a row of psychological deviations, based on one quote from a German psychologist. Do not forget that the generally accepted definition of the norm may well differ from your own, especially since it is very vague, and what was considered abnormal fifty years ago, today no longer surprises anyone. Of course, in cases where mental abnormalities are obvious and dangerous to others, urgent measures must be taken, but a harmless hobby for African butterflies, for example, is hardly a cause for concern.
