On December 27, 2002, the Nizhny Novgorod State Engineering and Economic Institute was opened in Knyaginino. At the end of 2014, it was renamed the Nizhny Novgorod State Engineering and Economic University. Since 2011, a branch of NGIEU has been operating in Nizhny Novgorod, created by joining Nizhny Novgorod College of Technology... With the joining of the Nizhny Novgorod College of Technology and Design in October 2012, the branch was named “Institute of Food Technologies and Design - a branch of the State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education NGIEU”.

The structural divisions of the university are specialized educational centers: Driver Training Center, Industrial Qualifications Center, Certified User Training Center for 1C software products; Energy Audit Center; Center - Cisco Networking Academy and others.

The university is focused on meeting the needs for educational services residents of municipal districts and small towns of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Education at NGIEU is free for students. More than 900 applicants from most districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region and neighboring regions enter the university annually.

The university prepares specialists capable of working in various industries and fields of activity. During the existence of the university (institute), about 2,500 graduates, bachelors and masters and more than 750 specialists with secondary vocational education have been trained.

The university is fully staffed. The qualifications of the teaching staff are being continuously improved. More than 160 teachers (of whom more than 90 are full-time) have academic degrees, including 28 teachers who have doctorate degrees.

The scientific activity of the scientists of NGIEU is focused on the real sector of the economy, including - on increasing the efficiency of agricultural production, its technical and technological modernization, solving social problems of rural municipal areas. Total average annual funding scientific activities is more than eight million rubles, of which more than half - from extrabudgetary sources.

In just 12 years, teachers, including those who came to science from the real sector of the economy, prepared and defended more than 40 candidate and 1 doctoral dissertations in various dissertation councils in various specialties.

The University actively works with enterprises and organizations - strategic partners. Together with a number of them: Sberbank, the GAMA travel agency, ZAO Lyskovsky Brewery, ZAO Pokrovskaya Sloboda, OAO Rostelecom, basic departments have been created. Thorough knowledge of the basic departments of production, economics, technology by the teachers allows to ensure that the content of education meets the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard and the requests of employers.

The material and educational and laboratory base of the university is constantly being improved. New classroom and laboratory areas are put into operation every year, and a new educational building is under construction. The university is equipped with modern laboratory equipment, multimedia and interactive complexes. On September 1, 2014, a high-tech resource center for training personnel in the field of infocommunication technologies and communication systems was put into operation.

There is a mini-printing house at the university. It publishes about 80 titles of scientific and educational-methodical literature annually. Since 2010, 2 series have been produced scientific journal"Bulletin of NGIEI", in which the results of their research work are published by postgraduate students and teaching staff of the university.

International activities are developing. The number of foreign students annually increases by 25-30 people. Citizens of Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan study at our university. Agreements on cooperation in the field of education, science and culture have been signed with 16 foreign educational institutions and educational and production institutions, including with 9 educational institutions of foreign countries. Within the framework of these agreements on various international programs in 2010-2014. more than 250 students and teachers have been abroad for practical training and internships. There is a fruitful cooperation with DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). Long-term partnerships have been established with the German training center"Doila - Nienburg", State Higher Vocational School of Kalisz (Poland), Weihenstephan University and Humboldt University (Germany), Agrarian University in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), OVIDIUS University (Romania), Wuhan Textile University of the PRC, Shihetsi University of the PRC, University natural sciences Lublin Poland, University of Technology(Greece).

Annual international student scientific and practical conferences, combined with a trip on a motor ship. They are attended by delegations from Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Poland, Abkhazia, and the United States.

The task is not only to train a competent, qualified specialist with professionally significant qualities, but also to form the civic and moral qualities of a person. There are musical and dance groups, eight KVN teams. The university delegations annually take part in the All-Russian student forums. Sports and physical culture and health-improving work is actively carried out. The university has several sports teams for team sports and water tourism. There is a sports and recreation center in the village of Vasilsursk - the confluence of the Volga and Sura rivers. The University is one of the largest subjects of the ore market of the Knyagininsky and Vorotynsky districts. Studying proccess is carried out with the participation of over 200 teachers, coordination and maintenance of training is provided by more than 300 people. Opened in 2014, the health and fitness complex "Molodezhny" in Knyaginino in close proximity to the university made it possible to transfer the quality of physical training of students to a new level.
